Moving home can be an emotional rollercoaster, a mixture of sad goodbyes and exciting new beginnings interspersed with lots of packing and unpacking.
So, to help you get through the big day, we’ve put together a moving playlist.
Here’s a list of songs to keep you going as you hand back the keys to one property and settle into your new home.
‘Moving On Up’ – M People
Crank up this energetic ‘90s belter and groove along to the rich, soulful vocals of diva Heather Small.
‘Our House’ – Madness
This classic tune celebrates the joys of living under the same roof with family. It’s an ideal anthem if you’re upsizing and settling into your ‘forever’ home.
‘Go Your Own Way’ – Fleetwood Mac
Starting again after the end of a relationship? Fleetwood Mac’s iconic break-up song (written by Lindsey Buckingham after his split from Stevie Nicks) will help you move on literally and figuratively.
‘Changes’ – David Bowie
Moving home is often part of a bigger life shift linked to a new job, baby, relationship, or retirement. Whatever stage of life you’re in, ‘Changes’ will help you embrace the future.
‘Moving’ – Supergrass
The dreamy, mellow opening to this song will help you stay calm and on track if your anxiety levels rise during the moving process.
‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’ – John Denver
If you’re returning to your childhood stomping ground after time away, Denver’s tribute to his beloved ‘West Virginia, mountain mama’ is just the thing to croon along to in the car.
‘Move’ – Little Mix
This perky pop tune from Little Mix will revive you if your energy levels lag while loading and unloading your belongings.
‘Here Comes The Sun’ – The Beatles
George Harrison’s song about enjoying the first bursts of spring after a long winter is a perfect metaphor for moving home. So, when you open the front door to your new place, throw the curtains wide and take a moment to revel in your new surroundings.
